Over $300,000 Raised for Local Veterans by Veterans
in Crisis Golf Outing

The recent Veterans in Crisis Golf Outing at LochenHeath raised more than $300,000, marking a record milestone for this annual event. What began over five years ago as a small fundraising event, raising just $3,000, has now grown into a major community effort supporting local veterans in need. This year’s remarkable total underscores the power of community support and dedication to those who have served. “We are honored to have this golf outing fundraiser played at LochenHeath,” said Kevin O’Brien, General Manager. “The money raised during the tournament stays right here in our community to support local veterans in crisis.” Jim Sanborn, event chair, added, “We would like to thank everyone who came out to participate in the outing, and all those who continue to support our veterans—those who have so proudly served our country.” This fundraiser supports Veterans in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Kalkaska, Antrim, Manistee, Wexford, Missaukee, Roscommon, Otsego, Crawford, Charlevoix, Emmet and Cheboygan counties. Spaun, coached by Director of Instruction Adam Schriber, captured the 125th U.S. Open Championship at Oakmont Country Club. In recognition of his impact on the game, Schriber was also recently named one of Golf Digest’s Top 50 Best Teachers. He was ranked the #1 instructor in Michigan and #25 in the United States. Spaun, coached by LochenHeath’s Director of Instruction, Adam Schriber, claimed victory at the 125th U.S. Open Championship this past weekend at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. Facing challenging course conditions and fierce competition, Spaun demonstrated resilience and skill to emerge atop a tightly contested leaderboard. After a difficult start—recording five bogeys in the first six holes—Spaun staged a remarkable comeback. A pivotal moment came with a spectacular 22-foot birdie putt on the 14th hole, bringing him back to even par and ultimately securing his first U.S. Open title. Adam Schriber has served as LochenHeath’s Director of Instruction since 2014 and has been working with Spaun since 2022.
